We have opted for end to end Discord Auth for pretty much every part of the game this time around. You may have noticed that the forums use Discord Authentication, the game requires you to register with a bot on Discord, and soon the website will use Discord Auth to manage your game accounts.

But Lykos, WHY?!

Because that literally removes a ton of requirements from our plate. If your state requires verification to see 18+ content (Pepper Park, some dumb laws, whatever) -- We push that requirement for ID Verification to Discord and stay far away from dealing with that kind of data.

But I don't want to give my ID to Discord

None of us do honestly, but I have to verify for the Developer portal and honestly? Not the end of the world. They verify with Stripe. It ain't bad.

BUT LYKOOOSSS I HATE IT

Then don't play? It is simple as that. We do not set the rules, your lawmakers set the rules, and anymore they are on some kind of weird power trip to make sure that we all comply and everyone knows who we are... privacy is disappearing, and they just say "Trust us". It sucks, and we would just issue you accounts with nothing tied to it and say have a nice day, but then we become liable for a lot of things we just don't want to be liable for.

At the end of the day, we just want to play Neocron and not deal with all the legal mumbo jumbo that comes with offering something up to the public for free.
